As technology advances it seems like nothing is far-fetched nowadays. Self-Driving cars exist only to a small set of people today because of cost, developments are still in the making, and people are debating whether it’s safe or not. An argument arises. Are Self-Driving cars safe to be out on the road?
An article was recently uploaded online by AutoInsurance Center pertaining to the debate of whether or not Self-Driving cars are safe for people to be purchasing. The article wrote twenty pros and twenty cons on the subject, however in the beginning of the article before the list they add two paragraphs on facts about car accident.
Diving into the topic, consumers that are afraid of purchasing these types of cars say that they are afraid the car will malfunction while driving and cause a fatal accident. Fatalities in traffic accidents occur on an annual basis upwards of thirty-three thousand people, and many have been on the account on distracted driving. The purpose of this argument is to raise awareness of both the positive and negative outcomes that could happen from Self-Driving cars on the road more.
This argument is an argument of fact, although few facts are given because the development and production is not at a mass rate today, these predictions and projections can be proved or disproved with evidence once that is collected. This argument uses emotional appeal, pathos, the author comes right out with the facts of fatal car accidents and how they happen. The reader then is hit with a type of emotion about the probability of getting into a fatal car accident. The author also uses emotion while giving the pros and cons by relating it to the reader, for example, “There is a less of a concern about taking the keys away from Grandma when she gets too old to drive carefully- the car will take care of her!”, this gives the reader a new perspective and emotion to feel about picturing their grandparent safe. This argument also uses logical appeal, logos, the author provides facts about car accidents, the products, and calculated predictions on Self-Driving cars. No one can argue with facts making this a strong pillar to form an argument on and audiences respond well to this type of approach.
